Workers' Compensation Judge

The Office of Administrative Hearings is excited to announce a posting for one Workers' Compensation Judge. This judge will work at OAH’s Duluth office. The Workers' Compensation Judge will:

·       Fairly and impartially resolve disputed claims and issues by conducting settlement conferences, administrative conferences and hearings;

·       Rule on procedural and evidentiary issues, determine admissibility of evidence and credibility of witnesses, interpret questions of law and fact, and issue decisions determining entitlement to workers' compensation benefits in accordance with applicable law;and

·       Maintain expertise in workers' compensation law, rules of evidence and judicial procedures.

MN Department of Human Services - Tort Recovery Unit Manager

The incumbent for this vacancy will manage the Tort Recovery Unit (TRU).  The tort recovery unit identifies, investigates, and recovers third party funds for cases in which Medical Assistance (MA), General Assistance (GA), Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), or MinnesotaCare funding was used to pay for injuries covered or partially covered by Workers’ Compensation (WC), No Fault Auto, Third Party Insurers, or in response to associated legal proceedings.

The TRU Manager oversees the litigation and legislative activities of the Unit, is the subject matter expert for the Department in tort and workers’ compensation subrogation, and supervises the Managed Care Plans in their subrogation activities. The TRU Manager is responsible for the process and outcomes for over 3,000 active cases per year impacting over $20 million in Medicaid funds and millions of dollars in subsistence funds (MFIP, GA, GRH, etc.). TRU Manager works with AGO and contracted counsel to manage active litigation in the Unit and directs attorney resources. Proposes and defends legislation for program improvement and protection, and manages relationships with the personal injury and workers’ compensation bar, courts and other state agencies.

Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy

The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy (MCEA) is currently accepting applications for a Legal Fellow. Established in 1974, MCEA is the state’s leading public-interest environment and energy law firm. We advocate in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and at the legislature to protect and defend Minnesota’s environment and the health of its people. MCEA envisions clean water, clean air, healthy ecosystems, a sustainable economy, and improved public health for all Minnesotans. 

The Legal Fellow is a one-year paid position designed to assist new graduates and/or attorneys in the early stages of their careers to develop skills and experience as environmental advocates.  The Legal Fellow works closely with MCEA’s staff attorneys on advocacy projects, including litigation, administrative and legislative advocacy, communications, and public outreach.
