Message from the President
It is with humility and honor that I have the privilege of serving as the 2016-17 President of the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers (MABL). This privilege recognizes the heritage and importance of MABL to our Black legal community. We (our Board Members and I) look forward to serving the membership and community this year.
MABL has been a cornerstone of support and advocacy for our practicing legal professionals and those aspiring to become practitioners. Our students continue to find MABL as a source of encouragement and mentorship, and our attorneys continue to rely on MABL for its career enhancing resources. MABL continues in many ways to support and add value to our members who may aspire to become judges or have already become judges.
This year, through the work of Law Students, Community and Public Policy, Judicial, Membership, and other committees, MABL will continue to serve our community. It is our hope that we will engage in strategic planning this year. Such strategic planning will guide our mission and activities in the years ahead. Our hope is that these working committees will provide an opportunity and environment to facilitate a stronger organization and membership growth.
Our 2016-17 leadership stands on the shoulders of our past leaders and their tireless work to build an organization that is relevant and valued to our many members and community. In our current dispensation, there is an increased need for MABL to be present when and where the needs arise for such, including the advocacy necessary to be relevant.
In keeping with our mission to promote and support the professional development of Black lawyers, judges, and law students in Minnesota, MABL is committed to the overall goal of representing the interests of Black citizens and their community in the legal profession and in the judicial system throughout the state.
This work, all done by volunteers, can be more impactful with many in our community becoming part of the association – we invite you to join and if you are already a member, be more active. Your ideas and suggestions make us a better organization. We are optimistic that our efforts will be mission centered, add value and invigorate the membership. I sincerely welcome your participation as we build a stronger organization.
Thank you for the opportunity to be of service to you.
