ABOUT THIS PROGRAM:
A panel of lawyers will discuss Angie Thomas’ best-selling young-adult novel, The Hate U Give. The story revolves around the experiences of Starr Carter, a sixteen year old student who witnesses her friend’s murder during a traffic stop. The panel will discuss different perceptions of racial bias in the criminal justice system, including the roles of the police, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and the grand jury system.
Prior to the meeting, participants are required to read the book on their own. Then come join the discussion as we wrestle with the questions presented about present day inequity and the challenges of the criminal justice system.
Lunch will be provided. Food will be served starting at 11:45. a.m. CLE will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m.
